This will be a brief update while I work on deadline on projects and apply for/write letters of interest (LOI) for other work. Hope you’re all well?
This photo of serviceberries/juneberries is from a park around a mile south of here in the new (and returned) Western locale. How has the weather been? It feels as if a damp thick blanket was lifted off me, a vast improvement for general health. Every day, I feel keen to exercise because not weighed down by humidity.
Later there will be a lot of direct sun and heat here, weeks of it. But for now we are in a period of green cool resulting from a long spring of snow and rain. Granted, I wasn’t here for most of that, but I tend to regard mild or wintry weather (interspersed with sunny days, thank goodness) as encouraging art-making, at least part of the time. Also, the extra wetness helps summer boil less. Hoping so.
Planning to start new urban sketches, painting, and other illustrations soon. Did one recently and it is below. Mostly, have been settling in and exploring a bit.
Suitcase subject indicates the recent state of things! To see other Snowseasons art, go here. Thanks.
More to come!
A Patreon ($5/month) support group for individuals affected by recent federal and federal-adjacent layoffs. I’ll host this group and we’ll set weekly deadlines to apply for jobs and/or do networking activities, volunteer work, resume preparation, and/or other warm-calling activities. And we’ll host check-ins. We’ll need a minimum of five members to launch the group, so let me know if this might interest you or feel free to forward this information. Thanks.
Art chats and draw togethers. You’ll have chances to join draw-togethers in coming weeks. And I’ll talk about ways to publicize art, including contacting art agents, taking part in craft fairs, joining local groups, leading classes, producing work for editorial assignments, and licensing work. Have you done any of these? Let’s discuss.
I’m in a similar swirl right now, applying for jobs that live somewhere between creative and bureaucratic.
The group sounds solid. Weekly structure is half the battle, and you hosting feels like a built-in win for anyone who joins. I’ll share it around.
Also, I felt that weather-shift line in my spine. There’s something wild about remembering your skeleton has joints. Like, oh right, I can move.
Cheering you on from inside my own art pile.
Thanks so much, Nicole! I will update on the group as people join. Enjoy the art pile, and don't I love it :).
