This is a stork from a video from Poland. They click their beaks when encountering their mates after migration. More of my SnowSeasons designs and work are here.

Hi all, want to join us for a casual sketch session? Our first draw together this month is coming up. We’ll likely put a video still of an animal or person on screen and you’ll have a choice of drawing it or a subject you have in mind. It’ll be a nice break at lunch time in central and eastern North America, also accessible to anyone in the UK or continental Europe in the early evening.

December shopping thoughts:

Artist Andrea Nelson recently spoke on Instagram about why an artist’s Patreon can make an excellent gift. I’d say the same for Substack; following an artist’s account can be a way to increase our creative community, hear about someone’s work, and motivate ourselves to work on our own projects in the new year.

Climbing Grasses is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work and my retired dad’s restricted income, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

I’d also recommend buying prints and other work from artists in your community. For myself, I’m still learning about creatives working locally in the very strong art community, but I plan to attend Make ‘n Take Texas at The Orange Show and see Zinefest Houston. After that I’ll know the work of a few more folks. Until then, here are just a few of the colleagues whose work I admire:

Phil Davenport on Instagram (prints of illustrations)

Ella Flavell at BurinandPlate (linocut and other prints)

Carolita Johnson on Patreon (comics and paintings)

And, although I recommend Substack gifts over my Redbubble, because Substack pays me a higher percentage, Redbubble has a 25% off sale right now.

So these photographic prints of my Santa Burrowing Owl are currently marked down to $6.81. They measure 6.5” x 12” on archival paper. If you need small gifts or stocking stuffers and want to keep postage light, I’d recommend these Sleepy Screech Owl buttons as well as other bird buttons, stickers, and cards. Feel free to scroll through designs here.

Thank you in any case for following or subscribing. Hope you can join our Draw Together this Friday.
